DG inaugrates Water Filtration Plant for less privileged class by Rotary Club of Karachi Gateway

The World Health Organization estimates that about 10% of diseases worldwide could be prevented with improvement of water supply, sanitation, hygiene and water resources management.

Rotary Club of Karachi Gateway accepted the challenge and installed a water filtration plant in line with Rotary International at Chandni Park, Gulshan-e-Iqbal in collaboration with city government to provide pure drinking water to low and middle class families. The total cost of the plant has born by the members of the Rotary Club of Karachi Gateway. Water filter plant consists of standard concrete structure, with sand and active carbon filter, with additional facility of chlorination and ultra violet equipment. In the initial stage plant has the capacity of 5,000 gallons per day and storage capacity of 10,000 gallons with underground and overhead tank. The capacity of the plant will be enhanced in due course of time.

On 17th February, 2010 a function was arranged in collaboration with local notables and Gateway members to inaugurate the filter plant. District Governor Rtn. Usman Masud Khan very kindly graced the occasion by cutting the ribbon and started the plant to function. He appreciated the club activities and said he knows the Rotarians can change the lifestyle of the low-income communities. He also promised for the matching grant from Rotary International, so that Gateway can establish more plants to improve the health of low-income communities. Local notables also appreciated the effort of Rotary Club. At the end light refreshment was served and the function was over.
