Obituary – PDG Haiy Khan Passed Away

Dear Colleagues,

Our dear and beloved PDG Haiy Khan just passed away. A dedicated and committed Rotarian for last 47 years is no longer with us.

Family is making burial arrangements and we will inform you once we have them. Spouse of PDG Haiy Khan can be reached on khan.martin@gmail.com. Cell of his son Matin is +92-300-823-2001.

In 1963, PDG Haiy Khan joined Rotary Club of Dacca, where he served as Sergeant of Arms and Joint Secretary of the Club and chaired Fellowship and Youth Service Committees.

In 1969, he joined Rotary Club of Karachi and at Club and District levels, he served in most committees and subcommittees including Youth Scholarship, GSE, Rotary Information and Rotary Foundation and as President in 1974-75. He became the District Governor in 1981-82.

At RI level, he has served on many assignments and was member of WCS Asia Committee and RI President’s representative at 3 District Conferences in India and was the Fiscal Agent for 5 years.

The most important Committee on which he served at Club, District and International levels was the Polio Plus Committee. He served as National Chair of Polio Plus Committee for 21 years having taken over this assignment from the late PDG Kassim Dada. Polio eradication became the calling in his life. Polio Plus was one of the most ambitious humanitarian programs ever undertaken by a private entity.

He helped to establish the Polio Lab at the National Institute of Health in Islamabad which has brought prestige to Pakistan as it is one of the best Labs in the world which can identify polio type.

In recognition of his services, the President of Pakistan, conferred the prestigious civil Award, Tamgh-i-Imtiaz on PDG Haiy Khan in 2000.

Kind regards,

PDG Aziz Memon.

I know Mr. Haiy since 1986,a long time indeed, at a time when he was running his construction business. He was kind of perfectionist, man of wisdom, very humble, elegant both in his manners and attire. . . he was a very devoted Rotarian and has done tremendous job for the Polio erdication.
We have lost a great man, but, he will always be remembered.
Mr. Haiy, we bid you a pleasant flight to the Heavens. . .
