Dear Rotary Presidents,

The NIDs is focused on polio awareness campaigns on a National level. The object is to target every child in urban and rural areas in Pakistan who may have not received the oral polio vaccine (OPV) is important to help eradicate polio from our country.

Several activities for the NIDs scheduled on 15 -17 February 2010 have been planned to create polio awareness in the effort to END POLIO NOW.

• The Coca-Cola Company is sponsoring the NIDs with 20 billboards across Pakistan.
• Waqas advertising a private sponsor has consented to provide 20 free billboards as well, all over Karachi for the END POLIO NOW campaign sponsored by RI.
• Warid Telecom, one of the largest telecommunication companies will send sms to their 1.8 million customers with a toll free number for those families whose children have not been immunized with the OPV.
• The Ministry of Health will launch the Bivalent Oral Polio Vaccine for the first time in Pakistan. The new bivalent vaccine is considered to be at least 30% percent more effective than the trivalent vaccine. Because the new vaccine targets type 1 & type 3 concurrently. The new vaccine is part of the intestified effort to end the disease in the four endemic countries: Afghanistan, India, Nigeria and Pakistan.
• Local television channels will run a End Polio Now scroll during the NIDs to create widespread awareness.

Every Rotary Club can make a difference toward the eradication of polio. Let us work together to eradicate polio from Pakistan forever.
