Rotary Club of Appleton, USA, through the Rotary Club of Karachi, made a generous donation of bed sheets, pillowcases and blankets to the Don Bosco Home in Karachi. Rotary Club of Karachi Sunset Millennium organized a special tea for the members of Rotary Club of Karachi and the children of Don Bosco on Wednesday Nov. 11th, 2009.

Rotary Club of Karachi Sunset Millennium has been involved with renovation and improvement of the living conditions of the Don Bosco Home for Boy, a shelter for approximately 60 young boys from the underprivileged Christian community in Karachi. In 2004, the Rotary Club of Karachi Sunset Millennium learnt about the dismal condition of this orphanage and on visiting the premises decided to take on the Don Bosco Home as its project.

Today, the orphanage has a new look. Not only have the living conditions drastically improved but also basic necessities of life have been provided to the 60 underprivileged children living there. This project, which is still ongoing, was possible with the help of our Matching Grant partner, Rotary Club of Wagga Wagga, Australia, and donations received from generous private donors viz. The Besom Foundation London, the Italian Women’s Club (Comitato Dante Alighieri-Karachi), the American Women’s Club Karachi, the German-speaking Women’s Club Karachi, Tauheed Trust, as well as many generous donors.

Under this project the entire building was repaired, toilets were rebuilt with shower and washbasins, along with the installation of hot-water geysers. New beds and mattresses were provided for the boys and ceiling fans were installed in every room. The dining hall was equipped with new dining tables and chairs. A computer lab was set up equipped with 10 desktop PCs donated by Pakistan Petroleum Ltd. In 2007, a new kitchen was construction, equipped with new cooking range, deep-freezer, refrigerator, microwave oven, crockery and cutlery.

The next phase of the project is construction of a new dining Hall, work on which will begin soon.
