Rotary Club of Lahore Sharqi’s NID Participation

15th, 16th & 17th February, the national Polio eradication days were observed as usual by Rotary Club of Lahore Sharqi on all the 3 days.

15th & 16th Feb 2010 Polio awareness
The following 3 institutions were visited to render the service, namely

  1. PSRD (Pakistan Society for the Rehabilitation of Disable)
  2. Balooch Ideal School
  3. Deaf & Dumb School of Inayat Foundation Academy

The children at the above institutions greeted the team with a innocent big smile on their face and very attentively listened the lecture on Polio and its aftermath affects. Interesting to not here that at the Deaf & Dumb School, the trained teachers explained the children every thing about Polio and its consequences by the sign language. During this period the Rotary team comprises of IPDG M. Saeed Shamsi, PP Rtn. Dr. Mansor-ul-Haq, PP Rtn. M. Maroof Baray, Rtn. A. Waheed Shiekh, Rtn. Rafiq Malik and my self were thrill and dumb founded of such and amazing presentation. The children were delighted and happy to receive the pencils and the badges etc.

15th, 16th & 17th February 2010 Polio Campaign
Shadmaan colony’s school (about 14 Schools)
This time the team has selected shadmaan colony for the Polio drops campaign, where they visited more then 14 schools and fed Polio drops to around 2000 children.

With this report I take this opportunity to re-produce my speech which I could not deliver due to shortage of time in the joint meeting called by RC Liberty along with RC Garrison, on Tuesday 23rd Feb, to commemorate 105th anniversary of Rotary. As well as public awareness for the Polio eradication campaign.

“Tonight we celebrate 105th Anniversary of a great and rare organization, the Rotary International Fraternity of Clubs joined with each other like members of a family are knit together. Once we belong to one Club, all the Clubs in the world become our home where we have a free access and enjoy fellowship. No prior information, no prior introduction is necessary to be able to visit another Club. There is no parallel to this unique feature in any other Organization. Any one wearing a lapel pin is your friend in any company, in any gathering.

Fellowship leads us to serving together for the cause of the community or for the cause of the world. Look at the Polio Plus campaign. Nine great organizations of the world have joined hands with Rotary International to eradicate Polio from the Earth. You may not have read the names of the big-nine. These names are always given in all Polio-day- posters at the bottom line in small print. Why not in bold letters? It is because we believe in service above self. We believe in negating any publicity for the ‘self’. Even the educated public does not know about the millions of dollars that have been spent in Pakistan in Polio campaigns… by us through Rotary International.

Fellow Rotarians” there is a lot to talk about on 105th anniversary. I have confined myself to Polio only because of personal satisfaction that I have received whenever I have looked into the eyes of an infant. After the drops had been sipped, I always saw a glow in the eyes saying ‘thank you madam: you have assured me a normal growth’.

Next time you serve drops, please do look into the eyes of the child. Then thank God that you belong to a great and rare Organization”.

Kind regards,
Yours in Rotary
