Another consignment of dry ration has been personally delivered yesterday i.e. on Sunday May 24, 2009 to the IDP’s of the Union Council Hathian, district Malakand Swat Area by PAG Zahid Mirza (my husband).

We got Wheat bags from a local mill and made packs containing over 15 items consisting of eatables and toiletries i.e. rice, wheat bag, cooking oil, three types of pulses, chick peas, pack of tea, powder milk, sugar, biscuits, red chillies, salt, match boxes, toilet soaps and detergent powder. This pack is good for a family of 8-10 people for a week.

We got these items packed in cardboard boxes; we specially went to the market and stayed there till after midnight yesterday and day before. This consignment catered for over 200 families.

Union Council- Hathian is almost 200km from Rawalpindi (twin city of Islamabad). We travel with a group of young doctors and business professionals from Rawalpindi so that we remain in a group while travelling and while distributing the goods. According to PAG Zahid Mirza the people are very cooperative and peaceful but the sad part is to see them living in such bad condition. Some of them were actually quite well to do people (in their home areas) who owned thriving businesses and lived comfortably, but now they are forced to share classrooms with at least three other families ( almost 30 people in a room 14feet X 16 feet). It is quite distressing when one looks at the situation but at the same time there is a reassurance that channels of help and support are active at the same time.

Our next consignment is being packed and we plan to travel over the weekend again, God willing.
