Visiting Rotarian Margaret’s Sojourn To Pakistan

Rtn. Dr. Margaret Lesjak is a Senior Lecturer at Centre for Remote Health Research, University of Sydney, and also a Senior Epidemiologist serving at Greater Western Area Health Service, Broken Hill, NSW, Australia. She is a member of Rotary Club of Broken Hill South.

Back in 1989 – 1990 She worked at Fatima Hospital, Sargodha, as the Laboratory Supervisor, through Australian Volunteers Abroad. She desired to visit Sargodha during Polio days since it is a concern for both Pakistan and Rotary International. She had contacted on telephone DG Usman Masud, PDG Aziz Memon, DGE Shehzad Ahmed, Shakir Naveed of RC Sargodha before making a telephonic contact with me. She was looking for boarding and lodging facilities in Lahore with some Rotarian and I informed her that I and my wife Rtn. Azra Sajid would be delighted to provide her home hospitality.

She arrived in Karachi on 9th November, 2009 and was the guest of PDG Aziz Memon. After spending a day in Karachi she arrived in Lahore on 11th morning and departed for Sargodha on 13th November. She was back in Lahore on18th November, I and my wife were again her host. On 22nd November, she departed for Karachi enroute to Australia and enjoyed the hospitality of PP Muhammad Ovais of RC Karachi for a day before getting airborne. In Lahore she was shown historical places, old city, parks, posh localities, etc. Besides that she attended a visit to Shaukat Khanum Cancer Hospital with Lahore Rotarians led by DGE Shehzad Ahmed.

She was invited by me to attend Regular Meeting of RC of Lahore and I also coordinated her participation in a Polio Campaign organized by RCL Mid Town at Quaid-e-Azam Law College where Rtn. Nafeer Malik, Principal and Dean of the College conducted us generously. Margaret had no problem in eating any kind of Pakistani food.

Yours in Rotary
PAG Col (R) Sajid Baseer Shaikh
